No Monday and very little Tuesday...

Unfortunately, Comcast, here in Lebanon suffered some problems Monday..  I noticed that after having lunch with Leann, I got home and was unable to log onto the internet...
I won't bother with details but I will tell you that after much effort both on the tech's side and my side, here I am back on and it took a little over 24 hours to do... That included a trip with computer, to Corvallis Mac store where the iMac got a clean bill of health, the deal was to make sure that it didn't have problems and so I felt good about that.
A stop at Comcast in Lebanon and hooking it up to their system yielded negative results too so then back home... I took my time and hooked everything back up and that 'What the hell' and clicked on 'Safari', my web browser and to my astonishment, it hooked right up... I like magic... on a stage or a floor show, but not in my home...
But it's up and running now and seems good so I guess that is all that can be expected.
Omar has been busy with a puzzle... I don't think it helps that he can't read and it's a crossword puzzle... sometimes.

Grey? or Gray?? either way...

The sky is blanketed in a cloak of misty Grey air, as though the clouds had descended upon the ground.  Dampness prevails, the roads are damp and there is a chill to the air...
Coffee was what it always is, the usual folks show up with the same old stories and attitudes... It amazes me how easily I've fallen into the daily habit of coffee with friends.  The coffee isn't all that good, but it is the extension of myself into a known group that seems comforting.  Part of aging I am certain, especially when one lives alone.
Nothing exciting is on the agenda for today, I think that perhaps I will vacuum as it seems that I've not done that for awhile.
I hope your day is bright and happy.  Mine will be fine, better once the sun appears.

My dream home...

I don't know where the picture was taken, or from which region of the country, but obviously not the 'Pacific Northwest'.  I love the log cabin appeal and have always dreamed of having one.  Maybe someday.
It is wet this morning, accompanied by some fog... the dampness is not due to rain but rather the fog I believe.
Nothing too pressing is scheduled for today, I am thinking about driving over to Staples in Albany as I need a new mat to put under the desk chair... the one I have has many cracks in it and is no longer serviceable.
I am toying with the idea of a future trip to North Carolina... likely I would drive the Mini.  It would probably be about a month long saga.  The whole plan is fiction at the moment but could transition to fact at some point in the future.
Nothing from Omar this morning...

Awaking to a beautiful sunrise...

As I drove to McDonalds this morning, I was greeted with a very beautiful sunrise, one that I've deemed to be 'Sky blue pink' a term garnered from my ex-wife and I's early days together.  Often when I see such a beautiful sunrise, I have to take a moment and say a special thank you to our Creator... who else could manifest such beautiful color into a greeting for all humanity??
Not much new outside of that though, the meals deliveries were normal.  I did stop out at walmart to get a new pad for the chair to roll around on but they had nothing.
Stopped on the way back to the tent and got some milk and a couple other minor items.
Tonight is, of course, Friday Night Smackdown so you know where I will be for about 2 hours.  I know, it's fake, but so are many people and it hasn't stopped me from associating with them.
Omar once told me that watching wrestling is how the Terrorists train to subdue the Amerikans who bother them... I chased him for about an hour with a hefty spatula... I'll show him Terrorist... little bugger.

Rain, wind, rain, wind etc...

Blustery would be the correct description of what the weather was like at 6:30 as I left for coffee.  The leaves have all fallen from the trees in my yard, there are those in the neighborhood that have stayed on for an extended visit, but they too will eventually fall... probably as the frost eventually comes.
McDonalds is experiencing some growth, they are remodeling somewhat, putting in a custom drink counter and a more efficient coffee dispensing area.  The work is supposed to be finished after ThanksGiving but until that, it is in disarray.
One must wonder where all the dust and dirt goes... especially with the kitchen and food prep areas in such close proximity to the contstruction work.  I am pretty sure we ingest part of it.
Omar told me this morning that he has 'Seen the Light'... of course that piqued my interest so I asked him exactly which 'Light' he had seen and he smiled and said "the one in the closet".  I smacked him and went to coffee.

A Friend, a visit, another day.

A little fog this morning, drove the mini to coffee.  After coming back home I noticed some scrapes on the mag wheels on the mini so I re-colored them with a magic marker.  I think that the low profile tires make it easier for the rims to contact rocks and other things encountered on the road.
I have a brunch appointment with a friend today.  It is always good to keep up friendships... sometimes even better than familyships... (neat word eh??)
Omar was reading the Koran this morning when I left.  I looked at it one time and found it to be interesting, but not compelling enough for me to change my religious preferences... Omar, on the other hand, can use all the religious guidance he can get regardless of the source.
Brunch went well, I ordered a cobb salad which unfortunately was par for the course at Sharis... I refused to pay for it and after we went our separate ways, I stopped at Quiznos for a sub... Damn Sharis anyway.
After that, I headed over to Albany to my Sheriff interview and from there to the Regal theaters where I got a ticket to see Saw V...
I then walked over to Fred Meyer and got another game for the Wii and a special controller holder that makes it more like a pistol type thing.  After that I went back to the theater and sat in the car until showtime...
If you by chance have a queazy tummy... Saw V ain't the ticket for ya.  I loved it but then after all, I live with Omar.  Gave me some great ideas for next time he taxes my patience.

Once again, the sky is blue... mostly

Although it was chilly while delivering the meals today, it was nice to see some blue sky for a change.  Fog is one thing that I have no appreciation for.
14 clients today, the ones added are close together so that makes it nice and it only added 1 mile to the route.
Tonight is wrestling so that is something I can enjoy.  Although it is fake and for entertainment purposes only, I do still enjoy the story lines.
Nothing special about today, Omar mysteriously re-appeared this morning... when I asked about where he'd been, he mumbled something about mist and lost his way... I saw some suspicious piles, steaming a little in the furthest corners of the back yard.

Fog and more fog...

It was cold this morning, I heard it got down to 37˚, but don't have an outside thermometer.  It felt cold and of course, the fog didn't help either.
Today is the final Nascar race of the season and I have no doubt that Jimmy Johnson will be the champion, 3 year running... quite the accomplishment but then every dog has it's day.  Hopefully another driver will rise up to be champion next year... I would love it to be Dale Jr.
A friend is coming over to watch the final race.  It will be nice.
I thought I had a fleeting glance of Omar in the fog bank that surrounds the tent but when I looked closer, there was nothing there... except this strange odor.  I wonder?
It would be nice, if you bother to read this post, leave a comment, at least that way I would know you had visited...
Carl Edwards won the race, Jimmy Johnson the Championship and my poor Jr. DNF.

Is it is or is it ain't???

Illusions... I've always been facinated by the tricks that the mind can play on us.. the picture above is nothing but an illusion.  They tend to defy logic and make your mind laugh.
Del and I went to Shirley Mae's for breakfast this morning.  It is nice to take a friend and do something out of the ordinary now and then.  Tends to break up the monotony of living alone.  They happen to serve an extraordinary 'Spanish Omelette' that I am sure many of you would enjoy.  My recommendation would be to forego the prior evening meal as this breakfast will certainly fill your tank.
The drive over was nice, Del and I took the mini and he was surprised at the amount of room inside.  You see two guys get out of a mini, especially the size of Del and I, you go Huh???
Fog prevails and the sun keeps trying to burn thru but no luck yet.
Omar went out to empty the spittoons this morning and ran slam into a fog bank and I've not seen him since... poor guy.

Friday, November 14, 2008

The 'End' is often the 'Beginning'

The fog this morning reminded me of winter mornings on the shoreline in Norfolk, Virginia.  Having spent nearly 10 years in that area, I saw just about every kind of weather one would want to experience and some that I would rather have avoided.
The prediction is that the fog will lift this afternoon, but if present conditions are an indication of what's to come... the prediction would be wrong.
I had 12 clients to deliver meals to today and two of them, my Aunt and Uncle, were missing in action.
Starting Monday, I will be up to 15 clients again.  It tends to fluctuate depending on weather other routes get too many new clients or lose too many and the dispersion of clients becomes too uneven.
I will add 1 mile to the distance I travel.

Lovely day and angry sky

Had coffee with the group this morning then about 8am, Del and I took off in his car for his Dr. appt. in Albany.  This is the day that he has the catarac taken off his right eye.
After dropping him off, I went to the Linn County Courthouse and paid the property taxes for the other tent.  I did it grudgingly and without any degree of elation or happiness... though the property is 100% paid for, I still have to rent the place from the State of Oregon under threat of losing it should I default in payment...  I will be happy to finally sell it some day.
Del did well and was in good spirits as I picked him up.  We stopped at a store in old towne Albany and looked around for a bit then headed back to Lebanon.  I dropped him at McDonalds then got my pickup and came home.
My dear friend Cathy Taylor called shortly after I arrived home to inform me that her daughter, Christy, finally had the baby... a large child by any standard at 9+ lbs and over 21" long... no wonder Christy wanted to get it out.  Congrats to both mother and Grand Mom...
Omar is absent today, there was a trail of chestnut shells leading to the dungeon so who knows what mischief he might be up to...

Blow baby blow... The wind has arrived.

54˚ outside, but the wind has picked up dramatically.  I am happy though as it is taking care of a task I dislike, mainly, raking leaves... Mine have departed the yard for points unknown...

I need a new 'hoof', mine's broken

Happy Veterans day to those who served and those who've given the ultimate.
The parade will be wet and probably not too comfortable.  I will be here in the comfort of my home.  I applaud those who attend, your patriotism is appreciated.
My right foot is acting up again and I feel the need to perhaps have it replaced... unfortunately, that would likely make the problem worse.  I don't know where this pain comes from, it gives no warning of it's impending arrival and there is never any trauma involved, no discoloration or swelling or anything.
Omar offered to 'make the pain go away', it is the method that he may employ that bothers me and keeps me from accepting his offer... that and the glint in his one good eye...

Friends... whence have you gone??

The start of yet another week... the last four posts I put up have garnered '0' comments so I guess my readership has declined to nothing...
Even Omar has noticed the obvious lack of comments... Oh well, others have lives to live and I suppose I should get one too... perhaps it's time to kill the blog and let it slowly die and disappear as have so many other things... OR NOT !!!
Anyway my friends, the innocuous drivel shall continue for awhile until at least I've exhausted my supply.

Sunday... let us praise the Lord

Wet and a little windy but that's ok.
Raceday today.  Nothing much going on, I did go to Wal★mart and pick up a case for the Nüvi so that is done.
I wonder where Omar put the chestnuts he was counting... I've looked in most of his hiding places but not found them.  I did ask him how many he counted and after a moment, he started to take off his slippers so I knew the number must have been under 20.  Not bad for an Arab.

Saturday, November 8, 2008

The main picture isn't far away...

It is blustery and cold with light rain at the moment, the morning seems to have digressed into a plethora of winter blues...
I had coffee this morning then went to Wal★mart and got some crackers and while there I noticed that they had some good healthy choice soup on sale so I bought 4 cans.
After I got home, I went over and helped Clynton a little bit loading some of their household items into a borrowed trailer.  Alonzo and Clynton's brother were there also.  They've since left to take it out to the other house.
Today will be an inside day, not much good going on outside except the 'Fall' weather which has abundantly made it's presence known.

Thanks for 'Fridays'

Great day... I cannot say enough for it.  The deliveries went good, spilled bean soup on myself and had a no show for a delivery... I love it when a plan comes together.
Went to Costco this afternoon, drove over in the Mini and damn... that is a fun car to drive.
Finally found a GPS unit that I like and that will pair up with my phone so I bought it... it's a Garmin Nuvi 760 and a dandy unit too.
To use it in the Pickup, I will have to install a cigarette lighter receptacle but that's no big deal.
Tonight is SmackDown so my entertainment is lined up... no females to share time with so might as well drool over the hard bodies... NO you dummy, the Diva's.
Omar has taken up counting chestnuts... I am not sure why, but he's collected a goodly number of them so far.
Enjoy your weekend.

Thursday, November 6, 2008

Hmmmm... what can I say?

Good discussions at coffee this morning, we all have opinions, some that are easily justifiable and others that are simply a gut feeling.
Merkley upset Gordon... a good sign for Oregon I hope.
Melissa came by the house so I could install the replacement tags for her license plates.  I also noticed a low tire so told her to have Les Schwab check it out.  I also signed off on the Title to her car and gave that to her with the advice to put it someplace safe NOT in the car.  She said she would.
Nothing special planned for today as the weather is still wet and although I need to rake the leaves, trying to do so when they are wet is useless.
Leann, Omar says thanks.  He is in the midst of his morning prayer routine after which there are some animal droppings in the yard that need his attention.  Nothing like raining on his parade.

A Fresh and bold new beginning...

I am a happy camper this morning.  The future, as I see it, looks much brighter and the potential for our wonderful country to regain it's prestigious position in the world looks achievable once again.
Mr. Bush... it's time to pack your suitcase of disgrace and exit.  Your reign of failure has ended.  I am sorry you failed so miserably.  The American people deserved more.
Mr. Obama, to you sir, I wish safety, good judgment and the support of our Nation.
It is a time of new beginnings, a time to right the wrongs that have been committed and hopefully a time to regain the prosperity that once adorned our country.  Many perils await our new president, but I for one will be doing what I can to ensure his success.  May God bless him.
Omar asked me about dual citizenship... says he really likes our new president.
I believe that many things are going to undergo massive changes and others will be subtle changes.  The man I will support, Barack Obama, will forever change the face of politics and the perception of America around the world.

"1" more day... are you ready??

Finally, the end of the electoral process is in sight.  How nerve racking must this be for the candidates and their families??  Can you even fathom the amount of '$$$' that has been spent in this election year??  Could you justify spending that kinda dough on an election??
While an enormous amount of money has been spent to basically change the face of Washington politics, how much change will we, the citizens of America actually see??  We vote 'Hope', and that is all we can do.
The weather is not too bad, a little warmer than I expected and perhaps even a little bit drier too.  Don't expect that to last too long though.
Tonight is 'bonus' night for me, I will be cooking a steak for dinner with some nice boiled potatoes and a fresh salad.  To top it off, my dessert will come in the form of a 3 hour special of WWE Raw... How good is that?? guess what.. no calories in that dessert.
Omar will be watching it along with me, but from a safe distance... he knows I like to practice some good old 'Choke Slams' on him now and then and has taken to watching from afar.  (Some Arabs are pretty smart).
Y'all have a wonderful day... Oh, Alabama, you have a great football team, can't argue that but your political stance is still Civil War era... Oh well... Cathy, can you believe that Hal thinks Obama is a Muslim??? how dumb.
May your wishes be granted  tomorrow...

Texas Speedway will be my focus today...

Coffee then home to a rainy morning and hopefully a good race in Texas.  I know that Jimmy Johnson will likely win it, but the idiot, 'Kyle Busch' did win the Nationwide race yesterday so he might end up being the wild card.  Can't stand the arrogant little shithead.  He can drive though.
Nothing to exciting here today, but then that is OK too.  I am anxious for the Presidential debacle to be ended so that we can have hopefully new direction and actual 'Leadership' in the USA again... We are a great country, but our past leadership (8 years) has done very little to promote our 'good' image... Hopefully our next leader will turn that around.

Rain is here... and there... and it would seem, everywhere

The scene in the picture above is one that will likely become quite familiar in the coming months... With that in mind, I've decided to decline my Sisters invitation to come to their house for Thanksgiving and instead will do volunteer work at the Lebanon Soup Kitchen over the holiday.
It was raining when I left for coffee this morning and I am pretty sure the next few days will provide us with more of the same.  Thankfully the grass is growing at a slower rate...
The trees have given up some of their leaves and it colors the grass for now.  Next dry day I will have to mow, just to pick up the leaves.  Seeing them go is like watching an old friend drive away... Nice to see them on their way, but anxious for their return visit.
I've paid the hounds for the first of the month, but their hunger will return on the 15th... they never get full, do they!.
Housework is done and yet there is always something to do.  I would rather visit with company, if I had some.
Omar is busy sweeping up a mess he made in the tent, looked a little bit like tinsel and maybe a christmas bulb but I am not sure.  I was watching CNN last night and he asked me what I was watching... I told him I was catching up on the Presidential race...
He didn't have much to say about that, but I know he is thinking...
Your comments are always welcome so let me know how your life is...

So close but yet so Far away...

Tuesday looms in the distance, I can see it well.  The outcome though may change many times in the interim.
I watch and listen to O'reilly's 'No Spin Zone', but over the last few weeks, maybe even a month, I have decided that Mr. O'reilly's "Traditional" views and political stance have, or so it seems to me, taken a decidedly "Right" swing.  I am not sure if it's always been there, but it is much more apparent to me lately.
Regardless who wins the White House, I will support them as a good citizen should, not blindly though, as might a political lemming.  We get close to the proverbial cliff, this little guy is bailing.  I know which side of the bread my butter is on, but I also am strong enough to give up butter... should the need arise.
With that bit of insight, I leave you to pursue your days activities remembering at all times that what we have is temporary to be soon replaced by what we shall get... Life works.
Omar sends greetings to all and of course is considering what new and great adventure he will find himself ensnared in... I will keep you posted.

It will rain... I am cleaning on the inside, nice and warm

Well after getting out of bed this morning and seeing the condition of the sky, I decided that this would be a great day to really clean up the house, knock down the webs, vacuum thoroughly, dust and generally do some things that I've been a tad lax on for the last couple weeks.
Generally, anyone that has been to the tent would tell you that it is in pretty fair repair, not too many tears in the fabric and not too many critters hiding in the corners.
Not too sure about what I will do after getting everything done on the clean the house front, but I am pretty certain there will be something.  If nothing else, I have some stuff on the DVR to watch.
Omar was up when I got back from coffee, he was doing a crossword by himself and arguing about whether he'd spelled a word right.  There was no one with him so he probably does actually 'hear voices'.  Funny guy.

Short, Sweet and Great...

The day, and the repairs went beautifully... good time, good company, good day...

Clear view for Tuesday evening... at least for Del

Coffee this morning, earlier than usual but that was ok.  Del came in about 7am and we left for his place about 8:15.  Dropped off his car and headed to Albany in my Toyota pu.
Deposited Del at Gentsler clinic for his cataract operation and picked him up at a shade past 11:15.  Patch on the eye for 6 hours then 3 bottles of drops and he should be good to go.  The other will be done in 2 weeks.
My, how technology has lept ahead in the ensuing years.  It wasn't all that long ago and people with cataracts were just condemned to ill sight or possibly no sight at all.. Now, they replace the lense and correct the vision deficiencies all at the same time... No More Glasses... killer deal.
Nice day, filled up the Mini and what with my lead foot and all the little trips, it still got 25mpg.  Driving it nicely should yield me about 30 or so.

Monday, October 27, 2008

I hate 'Ethanol'... mileage drop of 4.5 mpg

My little Toyota pickup went from almost 27mpg in town to 22 thanks in large to the mandated 10% ethanol that Gov klug required by law.  Asshole.  Even though it's proven to reduce mileage and power and destroy some engine parts, we still have no choice.  Talk about Government intervention... Again I say Asshole.
Lovely day, just really like the weather now and with the added benefit of being able to piss away more money on lousy gas... why, I don't know how I could stand to be any more pleased.
y'all have a good day!
After a couple of hours of stirring the pot of mental dysfunction that I meander thru from time to time, I decided that the day was pretty alright as a whole.
Omar finally came back to the surface, hair (what little he retains) all amok with leave bits thruout.  I asked him what took him so long to come out and he mentioned something about a gopher hole and how there is another world down 'there'.  I definitely am going to burn that pile now.
Perhaps a good tilling would be in order too and a bag or two of quikcrete.
I can't figure out how he got down there...

Sunday, October 26, 2008

Thank you Lord for this most beautiful day...

It is crisp, it is 'fall' and probably my favorite time of the year.  Coffee was good at McDonalds and the conversation lively.
Back home, time for hot chocolate and an English muffin.
I didn't get the lawn mowed yesterday, but today I will for sure (I think).  No, really, I will get it done today as I need to drain the hoses anyway so why not.
Omar did get the leaves raked up into a nice big pile he then backed off about 5 yards and took a running leap into the middle of the pile... I've not seen him since.  Can you burn leaves now??? (no, I would check on his location first *grin*)??

Saturday, October 25, 2008

Another beautiful 'fall' day...

After getting out of bed, which I was reluctant to do as it was warm and cozy.  I headed down to McDonalds for my normal morning intake of coffee.  After the usual bullshit session I headed back home.
I made some hot chocolate and and English muffin for breakfast and then decided to check my email and update this rag.
Nothing too new today although I do plan to mow the yards after it warms up some.
This afternoon has been very lazy here.  Been glued to the tube for a couple hours and watching a brain numbing series called 'Reno 911'.  I tell you there are shows out there that are only funded by the absolute unadulterated theft of viewers attention.
Omar, being the astute individual that he is seemed to find some intellectual merit in the show... not surprising to me though as he is mentally challenged (or should I say defunct).  Either way, he giggled his way thru a couple episodes before I kicked his arab ass out the back flap of the tent to rake up the leaves...

Friday, October 24, 2008

Yet another Friday... they seem to come too frequently for me.

The weather is still chilly, there was a little fog earlier this morning, but the sun has managed to burn most of it off now... the afternoon promises to be nice.
I have an appointment this afternoon at 1:30 to take care of a personal issue but other than that it should be uneventful.
When I get back home, I will vacuum pack the spaghetti bags that are currently in the freezer and that will provide me with about 18 meals.
Leann, my compassionate feelings for your impending schedule can only be described as intense.  I don't know how you manage to do it but power on ya girl.  One day at a time I suppose.
I meant it when I said that we would have to hit Wal★mart next time you are here... 'white boards' make messages really easy to jot down.
Cathy, I hope your back is feeling better, I know about back pain and it is nothing to sneeze at (that hurts even worse).  Take care of yourself my friend.
Omar made an appearance this morning grumbling about hurting in places he didn't know he had... he asked me for some horse liniment ... I snickered to myself and got him the Absorbine Jr. and told him to keep it north of the great divide... I don't know if he did or not, as I left shortly there after.

Thursday, October 23, 2008

Nice day, clear skies and breakfast with friends...

Beautiful outside although the fog did try to make an appearance but dismally failed.
I have an appointment for the mini at Rasmussen Mini in Portland next Wednesday to check on a small coolant leak and replace the shifter handle as it has some flaky chrome on the knob that irritates the hand.
Too bad there isn't a closer place to take it but that is the way it goes I guess.
Nothing on the schedule for today, I did sack up the left over spaghetti sauce and have it in the freezer.  Once the bags are frozen I will vacuum pack them and have mucho spaghetti for future dinners.
Omar came in this morning, my stolen shirt in shreds and he with numerous bandaids and apparent bruises...
I asked what happened but by the look he gave me I figured it best to let sleeping dogs lie...

36˚ outside on this Fall Wednesday morning...

It was likely colder when I went to coffee this morning, but now at 10am it is still only 36 degrees.  The sky is clear and very blue and that is great.
I got home and put together a 'humungousitantic' pot of Spaghetti which my daughter and I will enjoy this evening or early afternoon...
There was only one little problem in the production process of this pot... I got busy doing something and let it burn on the bottom... because of that I had to empty the pot (messy process) then clean the original pot (ugly bottom) and then put all the sauce back in and put it back on the burner on simmer.  I think the the pot doesn't have a thick bottom which may have contributed to the problem.
It is simmering and smelling a lot like Italy in the tent.  Lots of garlic and a red onion (that had an attitude).  I am considering how to best freeze the portions I will have left and think that perhaps using the food saver and quart bags will be the best.
Anyway, it will be a good dinner and we should both enjoy not only the eats but also our company together.

It was so very Foggy and cold this morning...

Thought you all might enjoy a beautiful picture depicting the time of year we are in... It's not local, but it is beautiful... do enjoy it.
I wished that I had put on a long sleeved coat this morning rather than the vest I wore as the weather really had some 'nip' to it.
I had 16 clients today and only one no-show.  I wish they would call in and tell us that they won't be home.  You package up the meal and all then traipse to their door, ring the bell and nobody shows.  Gonna sic Omar on em...
After deliveries, I stopped at the dentist guy and got some prices and was pleasantly surprised to see that I was eligible for 'Senior discount'.  Damn, it pays to get old...
I then stopped at Comcast to verify my normal bill and found it will be about 8 dollars more than I thought but that's ok.
Omar stole one of my old flannel shirts and said he was going kite flying?? What the hell could he be up to I wonder???

Monday, October 20, 2008

A new beginning... at least for the week.

It was raining during coffee at McDonalds and continued for a little while during my meal deliveries.
One of my clients will probably be going into managed care as she is in advanced stages of dementia.
I am sure as time goes on, more of them will go that same way.  You can see them going downhill... some quicker than others of course.
My plans are to challenge myself mentally to keep the mind eating diseases away for as long as possible.
Omar sends greetings to all... good thing that I am relaying them as he could truly use a shower.

Sunday, October 19, 2008

Race day today...

Well, it's overcast today too and the race will start in about an hour and a half.
I hope Dale Jr. has a good day, he has won before at this track so the chance for success is present... Jimmy Johnson is awfully good here too and Jeff Gordon could easily win... We will see how it all shakes out.
I have a friend coming over to watch the race with me.  A few beers and good laughs will be a nice addition to the day.
I've banned Omar from the tent for the day.
Jimmy Johnson won and Dale Jr. came in second.  A good race, even though there was a lot of conversation during the race I did manage to see the finish.

Saturday, October 18, 2008

Quiet and subdued day... warm quilt and crackling fire would be nice though

Nothing going on today at all, been curled up in the recliner catching up on some taped shows... nothing outside these tent flaps is drawing me outside for long...
Just made a trip to the store for some milk and a few other items... back home and done with the outside for now.
Hope you are having a great day and that you are warm and cozy.

TGIF but why??

Yes, it is Friday, I will give it that.  Not much exciting today, delivered meals and stopped to see if I could find a paint swatch that would be compatible with my carpeting.  I have one in mind and kind of like the way it looks against the wall and the carpet.
I will paint the entry hallway on both sides and am considering repainting the front door and the entry into the garage too.  There would be yet another choice of color and or design/texture.  I think I need to take some Estrogen to give me better designing insight... Quit laughing !!!
Nothing new from Omar, yesterday he wasn't too happy about his namesake heading out to sea rather than making a mess on shore...

So, if they are both 'losers' then who won???

Having watched the whole hour and a half of painful diatribe, I came away thinking that presentation and cool factor wise, Obama definitely did the better job...  'Joe the Plumber' overdone and mis-stated by our War hero McCain.
Sadly the one thing that most would like to have seen was obviously missing and that is the diligent and active pursuit of those in industry and government that allowed the American people to be financially raped.  They did so knowingly and without an ounce of intervention... I am so very pissed about that.
Omar says that we could experience another 'Civil War' but this time it will be the taxpaying blue collar folks against Corporate America and corrupt Government officials.  I thought that to be pretty insightful of him... sometimes he surprises me.

"Do or Die" day for the 'Republicrats'

Well nothing really exciting today, delivered meals for the third day in a row but have tomorrow off.
I am excited about the debate tonight... If McCain doesn't show more than he has in the past, this could indeed be a 'death knoll' for the Republican Presidential hopeful.  Palin already buried herself so he won't be able to turn to her for any poll points.
Obama needs just to hammer home the Economic plight we suffered for the past 8 years (actually mostly the last 3) and he should but won't target the folks that were ultimately responsible for the failure of what most Americans thought were rock solid institutions.
I believe, from past performance, that Obama definitely has the edge going in.  If he puts McCain on the defense, 'Game over'.
Omar is excited, this is his first election and he told me that he plans to stuff the ballot boxes... I didn't want to disillusion him so I didn't mention that we vote by mail.

No winner at Bi-Mart...

This is a beautiful day, some clouds and cool but a really nice day all the same.
It started off with Coffee at McDonalds as usual then off and taking out meals to my clients.  On the way back to the Senior center, I stopped off at the credit union to consolidate some small bills into a larger one.
At the Senior center I turned in the baskets and then headed to Bi-Mart to check my membership number... no winner today.  Heading back to the pickup, I stopped at the dollar store and got a bag of mini tootsie rolls and a bag of atomic balls.
Odd, Omar won't eat tootsie rolls, I asked him what it was about them that he didn't like... he says to me all straight faced and all "I know where they come from".. needless to say I didn't pursue the conversation.  Some folks are quite comfortable in their ignorance.
Cathy is having her procedure today in Birmingham and I will call her later this afternoon or early evening to see how she fared.  She's a tough old bird so I've no doubt that she will be fine.
Leann... gosh I feel terrible that I haven't been in touch with you for awhile... seems I am playing catchup all the time.  I can't do the movie thing this week, too much going on and got another run tomorrow for meals too.  We will go, I just don't know for sure when yet... forgive me???

Satisfying Sunday... and many other things too...

Coffee at McDonalds Del gave me some bacon he cured and a piece of flank steak (for stew meat), I came home and vacuum packed the flank steak and put it in the freezer and the bacon in the fridge. Off to Creswell me goes... out thru Brown Towne and hit the freeway. Mini handles the corners so nicely... almost makes you think that they aren’t there... but they are and I approached them with care. Got to Creswell about 10am and Mike and Dana were up and about but not by much. After Dana got cleaned up and dressed, we went to the market and I bought 3 great big honkin Rib eyes for us, Back at the house, Mike and I cleaned some crab that they had caught at the coast Saturday and added them to the salad. We watched the movie ‘IronMan’ which I must admit was a good one. I rented it this morning from redbox. left about 4:25 and got home about 5:15 so I made pretty good time... must admit that keeping my foot out of it is difficult because it is so responsive and fun to drive.
I've decided that Omar has a marked jealousy streak.  He hasn't spoken to me since I brought the Mini home... Oh well, his loss I guess.  He will come around cause basically the greedy little bugger doesn't like to miss out on anything.

Turtle soup would be clearer than the weather today.

Coffee at McDonalds. It was quite cold and foggy this morning on the way to McDonald's. Back home now and have the bedding in the washer. The mini is parked crossways in the front drive, I suppose the vanity part in me wants to display it to the passing people... I used to do the same thing with the harley after I had washed it. It probably is my way of compensating for having no one at the house to share with. That will eventually change. I was going to head to Creswell today, but after talking to Mike last night we decided that Sunday would be a better day to come down.

A nicer weather day today...

Coffee at McDonalds then off to the Senior Center to deliver Meals. After finishing the meal deliveries, I stopped in at home towne hero and had a turkey avocado sub sandwich with chips and a diet pepsi. From there, I stopped in at Safeway and refueled the Toyota to the tune of $33.15. After refueling, I stopped at the DMV and put in for the title change and specialty plates for the Mini cooper. It will take around 4 weeks to get the new plates... they are “GOMFWA”. Neato huh ??? I decided to call Lollie and see how things were going regarding the garage door... (They called last night wanting to know how to open it if the spring were broken and it was and they could not lift the door so they left the Lexus outside). They are headed back to the Bay area to enjoy Fleet Week during which American Warships will be on display and open for visitation.

Garbage in and garbage out Thursday remains trash day...

Coffee at McDonalds then Del and I went to AppleTrees and I bought him breakfast to celebrate his birthday which was yesterday. Home now and turned the heat on as the temperature in the house was only 62˚ and that is a wee bit cooler than I like it. In awhile, I will pair up the Supertooth 3 and my iPhone so that I can start using them together. The day started off clear but the clouds have moved in and I believe that rain showers are predicted...

Fog and Chilly today...

Coffee at McDonalds then over to Schwabs to check with Brandon and make sure my mini tire will be in then back home. Jacked up the mini and pulled off the LR tire. I will drop it off at Les Schwabs this morning. Put some stuff that was just taking up room in the garage out into the shed. I will have room for all 3 vehicles in the garage now. Foggy this morning, cold too. I am used to keeping my PU in the garage so walking outside to get it this morning was a little different, the windows were all covered in dew and it was chilly inside on the leatherette seats. I told Ralph at coffee that unless the sun came out I wasn’t going to put on his water pump today.

Consternation and frustration seem the order of the day...

Coffee at McDonalds then off to deliver meals... routine is boring but rewarding at the same time.
Raining now, I get wet with the folks that don’t have covered porches... good thing I don’t rust *grin* Stopped in at LinnCo and got the check for M Car Company and paid off the Mini. Stopped at the Post office after dropping off my deliveries receipt and got a ‘receipt requested’ envelope to send the payment to M Car. Called Justin and told him the check is in the mail so that is a done deal now. Went to Bi-mart to check numbers... a wasted trip. Back home now and getting things in order for the day. Instant Messaging with Lollie and trying to get her to send me a picture of her system permissions, but she keeps sending it small size and I just can’t seem to get thru her mind of how to see what is on the screen... She is stubborn and determined that she sees what is there but I end up having to call her and lead her by the hand to what I want. Anyway, finally got her squared away... it is often a chore though.
Leann, I posted on your Blog... I can appreciate where you are coming from, but don't let it overcome you... I meant what I said in the comments.  Chin up old girl, better times are a comin.
Cathy I've not seen anything new on your Blog... let an old friend know that you are ok...  I may not be there, but know that all my prayers and thoughts are with you...
Omar is in the dungeon, (as I promised Leann) he is banging on the cellar door in an attempt to get my attention and hopefully convince me to let him come up again... A couple days ago, I installed an overhead sprinkler system in the dungeon (Omar plays with matches) to prevent any unplanned tent warmings from occurring... Wonder if I should try out the system now??

Mucky Monday... I want sunshine !!!

Coffee at McDonalds then off to deliver meals. On the way back, I stopped at the credit union and took care of some business. Got a call from Ralph last night about 8pm. Evidently he went over to the coast yesterday with a lady friend and on the way back on hwy 126 he managed to miss a turn and slide over into the oncoming lane and clipped another car... no injuries to humans, but he tore up the LR quarter panel of his Buick and did some serious alteration work to the other people’s car. Too old and too fast and he doesn’t see well either... that is a recipe for disaster. Home now and put another house key on the keyring I use for the Toyota. I also went thru the paperwork that needs to be in the car. Instant Messaging with Lollie a bit now, she wanted to know how my weight loss is doing... as I said another time the girl is way to nosey for my likes. The weather outside is sucky today and it doesn’t look any better for tomorrow either. It’s all good though, the Mini is in the garage keeping the Harley company. Called Rhodes Warden to talk to Don about dropping the insurance on the harley and see how badly they will bite me in the butt to insure the Mini...
I love to share and of course though the picture of the Mini makes it my baby, I am incapable of childbirth... but I can be a 50% participant in the production process... Hope you enjoy the picture... it's a sweet ride.

Seriously??? I am once again a kid...

Coffee at McDonalds and a few of the folks went out to scope out the Mini. I can honestly say that this little car is so well appointed that it just takes me aback. I know that the European and German Auto mfgrs along with the high end Japanese, put much more thought and convenience in their cars than American manufactures do. Driving the car is a joy, but don’t confuse it with a luxury ride... that is something it ain’t. It is surprisingly quiet for a car it’s size and it handles like a slot car. The inside room is very deceptive as standing at the outside of the car you would never ever imagine the room inside. Everything has been thought regarding not only safety, but also driver experience. And many of you have seen the Mazda ads that to “Zoom Zoom”, this car puts them to shame. When you stay out of the SuperCharger, the mileage hovers around 32 -35 mpg. When you jump on it, that goes south quick... On the freeway coming back from Portland, with the cruise control on it stayed right around 34mpg and that’s at 70mph. Need to pass??? put your foot down and watch people’s eyes pop open... amazing power. The little car is amazingly quiet inside too, it is, after all, a sports car and designed for road racing... Not that I will be doing TOO much of that. Anyway, nice toy, gonna sell the Hog so that is where my life stands right at the moment. When I got home this morning, I washed it (What??? you thought I wouldn’t???).
Oh, Leann, this Mini S has the 'John Cooper Works' package so it may not be quite the same as the one you saw... there aren't many like this one. Omar... poor boy. Says he prefers the Camel.

MINI•MINI•MINI•MINI•MINI• What else can I possibly say !!!

Coffee at McDonalds then Ralph and I took off for Portland to get the Mini Cooper. We got to M Cars at 10am and the Mini was parked out front and Justin was inside the office waiting for me. We looked at some of the cars in the warehouse then Ralphy left and Justin and I went for a drive with the Mini. Half way out, he pulled over and told me to drive. Once back at the office, we filled out all the papers. When we finished with the paperwork, Justin had me follow him to a service station and he filled the mini with super and off I went. Trip home was totally awesome as I learned several things about the car... It is all I expected and a lot more. When I got home, Clynton came over and ogeled the mini and I took him for a nice ride... He is wowed with the car and told me so many times... He didn’t think that I would buy it... Surprise Surprise... We got back here to the house and clynton and his son stayed here to watch the UFC fights... I don’t care that much for them but it was a great 4 hour visit. Off to bed soon, Coffee should prove interesting tomorrow.

Dampness reigns today and maybe for the weekend too...

Coffee at McDonalds then off to deliver meals... I had 16 clients today and all were home. Weather or Whether matters not to the lovely creature I've chosen to share with you today... Gods ability to create beauty has no bounds...
Stopped in at Economy and paid my bill there and then on the way home stopped at claudines to ask her about the bill I got from Oregon State Tax. No problem she said, it is just a poorly worded letter telling me that I don’t owe anything.. she says the State and the Feds are screwed up lately. Rain seems the order of the day so I won’t be venturing out too much. I’ve been thinking of what to do with the front yard and have been leaning towards rocking the front 1/3rd of it and keeping the grass up by the house.
Here are some pictures of a Mini Cooper that I am considering buying: A sweet little car that has been appointed with every bell and whistle available and is a one owner (not a kid) car.  It is a 2006 model and is a 'Cooper S' model and has had the high performance package installed.  Asking price is $25,950 which is the lowest I've seen for awhile.  I talked to the sales manager for a bit... this is a really nice car.
I am considering trading in the Harley on it, but could buy it without doing that.  It will depend on what they offer for the Hog...

Tranquility rules today...

Coffee at McDonalds. It rained last night and is damp this morning too. JJ showed up for coffee and also the other JJ from Napa.. he is moving to SweetHome. Left McDonald's at 8am to pick up Ralphy. Back home and he is napping and it is raining and I’ve cleaned up the kitchen and am enjoying a cup of hot chocolate and some toast with Jam. Today won’t hold too much excitement, tomorrow I will have breakfast with Dani so I think I will go real light on dinner tonight.
Omar asked me this morning who Dani was and I told him that she was a friend I met several years ago.. he proceeded to ask me why I was going to breakfast with her.. I told him that sometimes friends like to get together and enjoy a meal at a restaurant.
He seemed satisfied with my answers so I don't really know what is going on in his pea brain.

WTH??? October already ?? !!!

Coffee at McDonalds then back home and made some hot chocolate. Well today is the time of bill paying. Got everything taken care of and am current with everything. Weather seems a little off today, cloudy and cooler but then there is a cold front headed inland this afternoon and rain is predicted for tomorrow. I have a date with Melissa this afternoon, we are supposed to head out to Waterloo park for an afternoon picnic with some KFC or Roths chicken for lunch.
Wow, I just got to thinking how in the hell did October manage to get here so quickly ??  I can't believe that we will soon be preparing for 'Thanksgiving' and then heaven forbid, 'Christmas' will be here signaling then end of yet another year.
I was telling Omar about christmas and of course, as a devout muslim he had no concept of what it was... I told him that if he were good he would get a present from 'Santa'.  The word 'Santa' must have a bad equivalent meaning in Arabic because he immediately put his hand on his scimitar and mumbled something that had an ominous sound to it.
Harvesting worms and deciphering Arabic pose equally difficult challenges so I decided to just let it go...

Cool and cloudy is just fine...

Got off to a rather late start this morning, didn’t leave the house until about 7:40 then Coffee at McDonalds and there I let time get away from me too... looked up and it was 25 after 9 so I had to scurry to the Senior center to get ready to deliver the meals. Back home, cleaned up the dishes from dinner last night and still had lingering memories of how good the steak was. Stopped in at Kellenburgers to see about the price of a couple of oven racks, but Brian wasn’t there. The lady took my name and number and he will call... maybe.
It is chilly outside this morning, much different than the proposed weather forecast.  It is clouded over and a little breezy but acceptable for this time of year.  I personally would rather it be cooler than warmer.
Leann, I hope your trip to Central Oregon came off without a hitch... nice to go over there once in awhile..  I assume you have either family or friends there??
Good morning Cathy...
Omar is scrubbing the tent floor... seems he had some sort of little 'accident' last night.  There is a compelling odor or 'Frebreeze' in the air, me thinks to cover something less pleasant.

A fresh beginning and yet another adventure... the past beckons.

Coffee at McDonalds then off to deliver meals. Looks to be a good day today although it is on the humid side... Stopped at the American Legion to see if they had arm pads or tips for the crutches and they don’t. Stopped at Pay n Pak and got some cheese and 3 loaves of bread... this time I got the cracked wheat instead of the whole wheat. Also got the good Tillamook cheese, the stuff in the black wrapper... expensive but very good. The foot was terrible during the night, but after Coffee at McDonalds it seemed much better and I didn’t have much discomfort whilst delivering the meals either. On the way to the Senior center, I stopped in at the post office and mailed the letter... it will be interesting to see if I get a reply. 40 years is a long time. Talk about a gloomy picture... the market takes a little more than just a stumble as depicted by the screenshot I've included below... The House and Congress better do something or War won't be just on foreign soil...

I approach Sunday with a Sanguine attitude... do you???

Coffee at McDonalds and now back home. While at McDonald's a couple came in driving one of the Mini Coopers. I got to sit in it and look it over and am more convinced that I want one... I will pursue that a little later. Home now of course and changed out the water jug and noticed that the one that was empty had the beginnings of algae forming on the inside top. I put in a tablespoon of bleach and a quart of water and rinsed it out really well which eliminated the algae. It was foggy this morning, but the sky is clearing nicely and it will likely be a really nice day. My ankle is tender today, not crippling as it was before, but it is letting it’s presence be known. I suppose mowing the yards didn’t do it any good.
Today the 'Chasers' will be racing at Kansas raceway.  Jimmy Johnson got the pole position, I believe that Jr. is starting in 8th position.  I sure hope he has a good run and with luck, a win.
As much as I hope for Dale Jr. to win a race, it seems that it just isn't meant to be... Tony Eury Jr. or Dale Jr. one or the other is not a good fit and I can't figure out which.

Saturday, September 27, 2008

A Pretty day today, started cool though...

Coffee at McDonalds then to Appletrees for a half order of biscuits and gravy... portions were terribly small. Back home and watched the debate... I thought Obama beat McCain. Got my laundry done and that is a good thing. I am considering vacuuming and perhaps dusting... It just cleared up at 11am this morning, until then it was overcast and foggy. I hope the remainder of the weekend is nice.
This afternoon, I decided I'd better mow the lawns as I don't trust the weather here.  They look better now.
Thought you all might enjoy a little 'Mountain Lake' picture to remind you of what a beautiful land we live in.  Who but God could provide such beauty??? and who but Man could consistently ruin it???  We need to preserve the natural beauty so that our descendants can enjoy it too.
Omar liked the picture and asked when we could go there... I thought to myself what a perfect opportunity... snicker (I really wouldn't do that though...) or would I??

Friday, September 26, 2008

The end of the week... any plans???

Coffee at McDonalds then off to deliver meals. 16 clients today and one no show... Stopped at Taco Bell and had 3 hardshell tacos for lunch. Foggy this morning and the temperature is on the nippy side but warmer weather is predicted for the weekend.
After lunch, I came back to the tent and Lo and behold, there, in the middle of the floor sits Omar... anybody know what a 'scimitar' is??  Well for those who don't, it is a small sword that gets bigger on the pointy end.. anyway, there he sits with this scimitar across his thighs and he is humming a weird little tune.
I says to  him 'Omar', what's the purpose of the big knife.  He tells me that he has it for 'self defense'...  I proceed to query him on who he feels he needs defended from... He pointed to the top of the tent and says 'Voices'...
Go figure.

A reprieve for the foot??? I hope so...

Slept in this morning till 7:30 then off to Coffee at McDonalds. Foot feels amazingly better this morning. It was a little tender upon first getting up but now I am walking on it and actually able to put weight on it without grimacing. Back home now, I felt a little tickle in my nose whilst at coffee so will take some vitamin C after a bit as a precautionary measure. hot chocolate and toast is the order of the day... More later.
Omar and I seem to have this 'Love/Hate' relationship going on and I don't know how to convince him that I don't hate him... he seems to be trying to push issues now that he realizes I am not quite so quick with the bum leg going on.
I've decided that I am going to start cleaning my guns, especially when I know he is watching.. seems he knows nothing about the theory of ballistics and that some sticks can emit fire and cause great discomfort...
Funny that he acts like that though.  I should have him examined.
Worry not friends, I shall keep a wary eye upon him...

Ankle pain still persistent...

Coffee at McDonalds. The ankle doesn’t feel much better so I am hobbling around still. Stopped on the way home at Roths and got a gallon of milk. Back here now and having a cup of hot chocolate. I took out a loaf of bread and a loaf of Zucchini bread from the freezer. It is a pretty day outside, a little brisk of course, but pretty non the less.
Omar has been absent the last few days, he noticed me hopping around on one foot and has been pretty scarce since that time.  Maybe he thinks I would press him into service to help me out??  Hard to explain why he's been absent but things have been pretty quiet without him.
I did return his prayer rug, upon closer examination, I realized that it wasn't actually a rug at all, but in reality was one of my missing place mats.  I didn't recognize it at first cause it was pretty grimy...  How does one get grimy while praying???  Odd.

The 'Hurtin heel' continues to plague me...

Coffee at McDonalds then off to deliver meals, I had to have someone ride with me to actually take the meals to the clients door. Crutches were the order of the day. My appt. with Dr. Thayer is at 2pm today. I hope he can diagnose what is going on with my Achilles tendon and heel. Beautiful day outside, the weather, on the other hand, is somewhat chilly. Winter is not too far in the distance.

Monday, September 22, 2008

Monday came and so did my sore foot and my new Comcast cable modem... Yea!!!

Coffee at McDonalds then off to deliver meals... my foot hurts today. Called Dr. Thayer’s office and set an appt for tomorrow at 2pm to have him check this foot out. I decided to try a Comcast cable modem as Peak said that I can suspend service with them and retain the ability to return should I not like Comcast cable service. I am currently on the phone with a Comcast tech, setting up the cable modem. Got it up and running now, but my router is out of the loop for the time being. Instant Messaging with Lollie now, sent her Stuffit so she can open stuffed files. Been emailing with Randall Gordon for a bit right now. There is no doubt that the cable modem is a lot faster... should have done this a long time ago.

God's day... raining, wet and holy.

Well, Saturday was a fair day, it started out normally with the usual coffee at McDonalds and then Del offered to take me to breakfast so off to AppleTrees we went.  It was a good time.
The rest of the day was basically spent nursing my right foot and watching a lot of TV... a waste of my time to be sure.  Sorry folks there is no Saturday post from me.
____________________________________________________
I can’t believe it... up at 5am. Last night was a terrible night as far as getting good rest goes... dreams and toss and turn all night long. 5:30 and I decided I might as well head down to McDonald's and get some coffee. At McDonald's there are two distinct groups that come to coffee, those who arrive at 5am and then those of us who appear around 6am or after. I was able to see both of them for a change... rarely do I rise before 6 or 6:30. This morning was definitely different. I can’t even blame Omar for it. It’s raining now and has been since I got up. I don’t know how long it is supposed to last, but it is welcome for now...

Friday, September 19, 2008

The end of the week is here...

Up a little later, right heel is killing me now. Damn the luck. I had to get up at about 4am and turn off the water in the front yard.. the timer has gone south so will manually water for now. Coffee at McDonalds then off to deliver meals, this ought to be a fun thing, having to hobble now, I put the crutches in the back of the PU just in case I needed them. Managed to get them all delivered but it wasn’t the most fun I’ve ever had. I wonder what is going on with the heel?? Achilles tendon seems to be the localized area of pain, where it attaches to the heelbone. I noticed a ‘For Sale’ sign on Julies house... of course no news from Melissa about that or from Julie for that matter. Like mother like daughter I guess. Back home now and having some chicken noodle soup for lunch.
Omar was up before me this morning and I found his prayer rug lying in the dusty corner of the tent... I went to ask him where he found it and he told me that this one was the backup plan... wonder how many he has and where he stashes them???

Thursday, September 18, 2008

Cloudy and Cooler Thursday...

Coffee at McDonalds then back home. Cleaned up the dishes and made some Oatmeal for breakfast... I then made some hot chocolate. On the computer, I designed a business card (I have the software) that lists all my medications and the fact that I have no known allergies. I thought carrying a card like that in my wallet could some day prove handy... either for me or a paramedic. Today the weather is much cooler and the skies are overcast. There is a storm lurking off the coast that they expect to make it’s way to the valley by this weekend... my yard could use the rain. Nothing especially exciting is planned today, although, I do think I will dust and perhaps vacuum. Laundry will wait till tomorrow though. I have a tray of grapes in the freezer to bag yet and then I will be done with them for awhile... I hope they go on sale pretty soon so I can do even more of them... they make for a nice treat.

Cool and quiet... Wednesday sneaks in.

Coffee at McDonalds a shade later this morning, after which, I stopped at Julie’s to get Ralph. Talked to her a bit and evidently the job at Wal★mart is part time so she will still be subbing. Back home now, made some hot chocolate and gave Ralphy one of the bones I got for him and he doesn’t seem all that interested in it, at least for now. I examined his teeth, he has some that have developed a grayish color and that tends to make me believe that they are likely dying or decayed... He is, after all, quite elderly so it’s not too surprising... His eyes are still bright and his personality is still very pleasant. As will all who age, he isn’t quite as peppy as he was a few years ago.
I must tell you, the purveyors of this blog that I had a revelation today... in a conversation with Omar, I was referred to as an 'Infidel' by him.  I took a moment and looked up the meaning of 'Infidel' and found the following definition:
1. Offensive. An unbeliever with respect to a particular religion, especially Christianity or Islam. 2. One who has no religious beliefs. 3. One who doubts or rejects a particular doctrine, system, or principle.
I then asked Omar which one he thought I qualified as.  He was deep in thought for several moments then looked at me and shook his finger and said: "You cannot be whom you seek as qualities do not exist in you to permit it."
I shook my head and chuckled a bit at that comment.  My response to him was "So being a practicing Christian doesn't exempt me from this 'Infidel' label"???.  Blank stare, glazed eyes and Islamic mumbling followed.
I decided to hide his prayer rug... we will see where that leads, being an 'Infidel', gives me great latitude in making his life miserable.  The saga continues.

May be my "Lucky Number Day" at Bi-Mart...

Coffee at McDonalds then off to deliver meals. After that I stopped and put some money in the bank. Back home now and made some hot chocolate. It feels warm today already, perhaps a tad of humidity in the air. Leann is camping, hope they are having a good time. The remainder of the day provided little to post about, I did watch some shows that I had taped... the evening proved quiet and uneventful and I went to bed about 9:30. Tomorrow may offer more, but I know not yet... Omar is mysteriously quiet this evening, curled in a ball in the corner, almost in a fetal position.

Overcast somewhat and blazingly hot

Up about 6:25 and anxious to see how the weight loss is coming... jumped (stepped) on the scales and lookie here... 234.5 Lost 15lbs. I then decided to have Coffee at McDonalds. At about 8:30 I decided it was time to head over to the Senior Center and prepare for the Meals deliveries... I have 16 clients today. It is supposed to be really hot today, projected to hit 98˚. Too hot for me, that is for sure. Called Julie and told her I would like to get Ralphy on Wednesday and that she should call if there is any problem. Instant Messaging with Lollie for a bit, she, unfortunately, stayed the same weight at 162 but it is so hard for her to cut back on the great food she and Gareth like so much. He couldn’t buy a pound from a butcher shop... lucky I suppose. Nothing special planned for today, Monday night Raw will be on tonight and I will of course watch that. I might dust the bedroom and perhaps vacuum but not even sure about that.
Omar was in good spirits today, he told me that Achmed has left the country as he missed the camps.  I told Omar that was probably for the best.  Omar said that perhaps he could bring over another friend and I encouraged him to rethink that.  We will see where that leads.
The day is young my friends, go forth and enjoy.
A late update:  I took a little nap this afternoon, I suppose that is the result of having some food in my belly. Sorta like a Mexican siesta me thinks.

1st and 9 to go...Almost...not quite but almost.

Coffee at McDonalds then home and having some hot chocolate. The first race of the ‘Chase for the Championship’ starts today. I hope the Dale Jr. can do well. He seems to be of the right attitude and certainly it is his time. Nothing too new around here, I may mow the yard this afternoon, once the sun has had a chance to dry off the dew. Answered an email from someone on CL just now... it is amazing what people write from time to time. I truly feel it is an adventure everytime I log on to that place... not always a good one though. Well it was a good race and I don’t mind that Greg Biffle won... Jr. could have won it ‘cept for a set of bad tires... You just never know.
The Carp disappeared over night and I found the remainder of Omar's covert activities in the garbage can including the hens and the rooster.  I asked him how he managed to get the hens and the rooster and he muttered something about a farmer and a shotgun and that rock salt stings.
You really never know what is going on in his mind... I suppose, or at least I hope that he ate the Carp... (Yuck !!!!!).  He looked pretty ragged so I held his head in the toilet and flushed it 3 times... his eyes are a tad bloodshot but his hair is clean now.
Enjoy the day my friends...

Strange Saturday discoveries.

Coffee at McDonalds then to the Saturday market... nothing there, but some really good looking produce. Updated the blog for yesterday and haven’t even given too much thought to what will perhaps titillate the enquiring minds of todays readers. Omar is back now. I know this because I found 3 carp, a rooster, three hens, 2 broken bowling balls, 5’ of string, a thimble, two baseball cards, the front bumper off a Isetta scooter, 6 marbles and muddy tracks. I am not sure where he is, just that he is back. More to follow (I’m afraid).

Shell shocked ears... not a pleasant thing.

Coffee at McDonalds then delivered meals. I will stop at LinnCo before going to the movie this afternoon. Washed the PU and repotted my plant... hope she does well. Tony said to keep it till October. I will and will get some of that ‘Tiger Plus’ fertilizer too maybe. Trekked to the theater  to watch ‘Tropic Thunder’. I honestly have never ever been in a theater with a movie playing this loud... painful to my ears and I complained to the theater people after the movie.
Back home and my ears are still ringing... I cannot believe it. If Peak get any slower I am going to switch to Comcast... I cannot believe how freaking slow it has been lately. All in all, it was a good day, nothing exciting but still a good day.
Finally got the iPhone update downloade 231 meg. and installed. Watching some Smackdown now then off to bed.

Thursday...mundane to say the least

Up later again then Coffee at McDonalds. Back home by about 9:30. Cleaned up the kitchen a little, vacuum packed the cereals and cleaned the containers. Set an alarm for 12:45. I just posted a patriotic post on CL RnR. It will be interesting to see the comments that are generated. Soon I will leave for Albany. I got to the Vets office about 10 minutes late thanks to the train on Queen ave. I won’t make the mistake of going that way again. After the appt. I went to Costco and got 4 cases of water, some anti-acid pills and a bag of avocados for Cecil... I gave Margaret the bag of avocados, she wanted to pay, but I told her no, I didn’t want any money for them. Cecil isn’t feeling good today... seems to happen a lot more frequently these days...
For those of you wondering about Omar's latest adventure involving chickens and bowling balls, I have no clue.  No news is good news says me.  I will inform you as soon as I either hear from him or hear about him...

Wednesdays can be wonderful with the right person...

Coffee at McDonalds then went over to Albany and parked in the mall lot in front of Target. I was there about a hour and a half early, but had some reading I wanted to do so that was good. I decided to to into Target and look around for a bit, ended up buying a 1qt saucepan with metal rimmed glass top. Nice heavy pan and I didn’t have a 1 qt at home. It was normally $29.95 and I got it for $20.95 so that was a good deal I thought. Melissa got there right on the dot at 10:30 and we took off for the Willamette Valley Winery near Salem. We had a wonderful lady server by the name of Erica who spends 6 months out here in Oregon and the rest of the time in South Carolina. We were able to have 6 tastings of wine (all they can legally give us). We both decided to buy a bottle of the wine named “Oregon Blossum” which happens to be a light and slightly sweet wine that tickles your tastebuds and leaves a happy feeling in your mouth... Not a bad purchase for $10. We thought that it might be nice if we met up there maybe 4 times a year to share a bottle of wine and a picnic lunch together... I find that idea appealing. After we left there, we ended back up at the Mall parking lot and I dropped her off at her car. She informed me that she is now seeing a young man by the name of Ermine... says he is very smart and a Political Science major (God forbid) and avidly involved in the theatre which is good considering it is her first and most pressing love. We hugged and loved and said see ya and I came on back home.
After discovering the odor in the cupboard yesterday, I decided to check into it further.  Moving various sundry items around, I discovered what appeared to be a half eaten mellon of some kinds and 3 pieces of partially chewed licorice.
The other thing, and I didn't see this until this morning, was a note, scribbled, from Omar that informed me that his plan for the day was to go Chicken fishing with a bowling ball... don't ask ...

I missed getting the Garmin GPS by one number...

Coffee at McDonalds then off to deliver meals. 15 again today and all were home. Stopped at Bi-Mart and my number missed by one... Stopped at the dollar store and got 4 bags of atomic balls... Nothing special today, the weather is nice and the temperature moderate but is likely to get warmer this afternoon.
Something smells in the cupboard, yep, the one Omar ducked into yesterday morning... perhaps an exterminator is in order?

First day of the week...not for the meek

Up a shade later this morning then Coffee at McDonalds. Off to deliver my meals, I had 15 clients today and one of them was a no show. Came home and made a divider for the cooler. My friend called and cannot decide now (of all times) what size sink he wants.. last time I talked to him this was all done. Worse than some women I know. Read Leann’s blog and went to the Stormieweather blog and commented... don’t know the lady, but when we need support, it oft matters not from whence it comes.
Omar was up early this morning, before me.  I probably would have slept longer, but he was sitting in the middle of the tent banging on an old sauce pan with a wooden meat tenderizer.
Stumbling from my boudoir, I took a running leap at him and he managed to duck at the last moment foiling my effort to land a field goal with his ugly little head.  He managed to duck into a cupboard before I could get hold of him.  His day is coming, that little bugger.
I am seriously thinking about volunteering him for the Peace Corp...

A Sunday of sundry events...

It is 7am and now Coffee at McDonalds. After that, to Roths for some cottage cheese and a gallon of milk. Watched the race and Dale Jr. finished 4th behind the winner Jimmy Johnson. Good race and I thought that he had a winning car but I guess it wasn’t to be. Today is a nice day weather wise but I really don’t have much that I need or for that matter even want to do today. Cathy, you are right, it was Jimmy’s day again... sure seemed like Jr. had the car to beat but in the end it just wasn’t to be. Leann, you’ve been noticeably absent lately... is your shoulder bothering you or are you hiding?? I think I will go sit on the lawn in a nice chase lounge and read the Roths ads for awhile as the fresh air would feel good. Later my friends...
I was setting and enjoying life and Ralphy calls and needs help to replace a serpentine belt on Rhea’s Chevy Prizm... They have the belt, but the diagram is either wrong or the belt too short. I went over and after about 10 minutes, decided we needed to check with AutoZone and see if they gave us a belt for a Prizm without AC. The parts guy checked and we had the only belt offered, but we found out that the store manager had given Ralphy the wrong diagram... after looking at the computer picture of the pulley arrangement, we printed out the correct one and went back to the car... With the correct information you can generally fix just about anything... the belt was installed in less than 5 minutes... That goes to show you that positional authority doesn’t necessarily equate to intelligence... case in point... Home again now and having a Corona... anyone out there want one??

A dreary Saturday for the moment...

Coffee at McDonalds then down to the Saturday market which proved to be a rather large waste of my time. I got $60 out of the bank just in case. Back home now, sprayed down the shower with bleach and sprayed the curtain on the garage floor before I will wash it. I have a load going now in the washer. Today is starting out overcast and on the cooler side. I don’t believe that there is any inclement weather predicted, but it will take a bit for this overcast to burn off. Lots of garage sales signs around town so maybe I will hit some of them later. I’ve not talked to the girls this morning or even last night... decided to take the evening off and watch SmackDown. Nick called and he and a friend have found a nice house to rent so that will get him out of his mom’s place. He also informed me that he is once again unemployed. He says it is a pre winter drawdown but as with most of Nick’s stories, it always favors him. I don’t know what I will do for most of the day, I might do some more pressure washing or perhaps I won’t. Nice thing is that I can make what ever choice I want. Omar is back now, I saw his little slipper tracks leading to his sleeping area so I must assume that he is still asleep. Might be a good chance to sneak up on him... or not. I will add to this blog as the day unfolds. Take care and remember, I am thinking of you.

Foxy Friday and finally a clean house...(outside that is)

Coffee at McDonalds then off to deliver meals... 15 clients today. Back home and decided to remount my mailbox as it was wobbly. Then, I decided I needed to replace the cord on my circular saw so I will do that after updating this information. Got and email from Ralphy, he said he picked up a roll of Andy jackson dollars so I will soon make the trip for mine. Del dropped by for a visit this afternoon, I was in the middle of putting my saw back together, I decided rather than to replace the cord, I would just shorten it up like the new ones are. Now it has about an 10“ cord on it and I don’t have to wind it up anymore... Seems I always had to get an extension cord anyway so why not have it short?? After Del left, I decided that I would pressure wash the front and the side of the garage and the front of the house too. It does look better and I really pissed off a bunch of spiders. Oh well, Omar will find them... He seems to think that they are some kind of fertility food, I told him Oysters work better but he thinks the spiders work so there ya go. I may go to Sum Yan for some chinese food tonight, I’ve not decided for sure, but it is a chance to watch the folks go and come out from Rite Aid... Jezzzzz what an exciting life I have.

Thursday, my Auto repair day...Helping friends helps me...

Coffee at McDonalds a little earlier than normal. From there, Ralph followed me home where I pulled off the alternator from his Buick and also repositioned the cover of the air filter which was askew. Went down to Napa to see Ben and get another alternator but he hadn’t came in yet so we browsed a little then he finally got there. The new alternator cost Ralph $0 so he was pretty pleased about that. Back home, I reinstalled the new alternator and the job was finished. Today looks quite nice, I just washed the stainless steel measuring tumblers and the 4 bowls I bought yesterday at Wal★mart. I have no particular plans today except for mowing the front yard after the sun gets it dried out. I may go for a ride on the harley, I don’t know yet. Just finished reading both Leann and Cathy’s blogs... things are exciting, it is nice to share events with friends and even better to be in a position to pray for those in need. Makes me feel good.
On the home front, nothing from Omar, perhaps Achmed took him along??
Ah well, tis a matter for the foggy mind to dwell upon... in the mean time, I am including pictures of my first attempt at sweet (zucchini) bread... Oh, ya, it smells so very good too.
I stole the link below from Leann's blog... it's neat, click on it. "This is way kool"

The beauty of the flowers and the history of those gone before us...

Up late then Coffee at McDonalds. From there stopped at Ralph’s and he will come over to have me replace the idler pulley on his car. Margaret called this morning and asked me to wait a little before coming over to make bread as she needed to to to some appointment this morning. Margaret called, I went down and we mixed up the zucchini bread together and then she stuffed it in the oven... I got home and called Ralph and over he came. I took off the old idler pulley and put the new one on and it bound up so I took it off and compared the two and the new one didn’t have the relief that it needed to clear the phenolic body of the idler. We went back to AutoZone and they only showed the one pulley so then off to Napa. Ben pulled the right one off the shelf, gave me a dealership discount and we got back to my place where I installed the idler and the new serpentine belt for Ralph. He is gone now to see if the Alternator is too noise, it is also a Napa part. I just finished reading Leann’s blog, found it to be interesting and I see some budding thought patterns emerging that could prove for interesting reading... Don’t sell yourself short Leann, you are very capable and I can only imagine some of the experiences you’ve had... especially where you work. Cathy, I checked, but your blog seems to be parked for the moment... come on girl, get busy and update... I gotta know how thing are going in ‘bama’ land. Yesterday proved to be a very nice afternoon... at the moment, I shall leave it at that and perhaps later the mood will move me to elaborate but for now, you may wonder.
Ralphy called me again this afternoon and asked if I were home... I said no and he says I know, I am in your driveway... evidently he went to Napa again and asked Ben to listen to the noise and Ben said that the alternator has a bearing out.
I told Ralphy that we would pull if off after coffee in the morning and I will run him down to Napa to get another one.
I went to Walmart this afternoon and dumped $137 bucks.  Got some things I needed and some things I wanted... problem is the things I wanted outnumbered the things I needed... Oh well, so goes life a bachelor.
There was a note on the front door from Omar, he told me that he is taking Achmed to the bus depot.  My thoughts are that Achmed is taking off... lingering in the background of my muddled mind is "for how long and where"????  I have the beginnings of a thermal migraine... damn arabs.
Y'all have a great night and I will think up something for the 'morrow.

A late beginning to a short week...

Coffee at McDonalds then off to deliver meals, another new client today so I am up to 15 again. Stopped at Roths and got a loaf of bread and some carmels... I love them and they are out in prep for Halloween and the carmel apples and such. Looks to be a beautiful day today and feeding the ducks should be fun and provide an opportunity to deepen a friendship at the same time. Ralphy is supposed to take his car into Sams and get another opinion on the noise he hears under the hood. I still think it is the tensioner pulley. Omar is mysteriously absent this morning, I am not sure where he might be but there was a trail of cracker crumbs leading down the dungeon steps so he may have gone down there... I still wonder about Achmed and the cell phone thing... perhaps they are in cahoots and putting together some surprise for me... I shudder to think. Imagination my friends is what spices up the mundane existence we muddle tru...

Labor Day... so, ya wonder where that name came from??

Coffee at McDonalds then over to Julie’s to pick up Ralphy. It is foggy today and I don’t think the temperature is supposed to be very high. Paying my bills now, it is always good to pay them on time. Just finished washing and cleaning the microwave, had to take the intake grill off and use degreaser on it... so many little nooks and crannies to get.. I must have washed it 4 times to get them all. I squirted Omar with the hose and got him pretty wet... he smells like a damp dog now, kinda looks like one too.
Now, about the history of "Labor Day" ...
Labor Day: How it Came About; What it Means Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Founder of Labor Day More than 100 years after the first Labor Day observance, there is still some doubt as to who first proposed the holiday for workers. Some records show that Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor, was first in suggesting a day to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold." But Peter McGuire's place in Labor Day history has not gone unchallenged. Many believe that Matthew Maguire, a machinist, not Peter McGuire, founded the holiday. Recent research seems to support the contention that Matthew Maguire, later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson, N.J., proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York. What is clear is that the Central Labor Union adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic. The First Labor Day The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883. In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country. Labor Day Legislation Through the years the nation gave increasing emphasis to Labor Day. The first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed during 1885 and 1886. From them developed the movement to secure state legislation. The first state bill was introduced into the New York legislature, but the first to become law was passed by Oregon on February 21, 1887. During the year four more states — Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York — created the Labor Day holiday by legislative enactment. By the end of the decade Connecticut, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania had followed suit. By 1894, 23 other states had adopted the holiday in honor of workers, and on June 28 of that year, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories. A Nationwide Holiday The form that the observance and celebration of Labor Day should take were outlined in the first proposal of the holiday — a street parade to exhibit to the public "the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations" of the community, followed by a festival for the recreation and amusement of the workers and their families. This became the pattern for the celebrations of Labor Day. Speeches by prominent men and women were introduced later, as more emphasis was placed upon the economic and civic significance of the holiday. Still later, by a resolution of the American Federation of Labor convention of 1909, the Sunday preceding Labor Day was adopted as Labor Sunday and dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement. The character of the Labor Day celebration has undergone a change in recent years, especially in large industrial centers where mass displays and huge parades have proved a problem. This change, however, is more a shift in emphasis and medium of expression. Labor Day addresses by leading union officials, industrialists, educators, clerics and government officials are given wide coverage in newspapers, radio, and television. The vital force of labor added materially to the highest standard of living and the greatest production the world has ever known and has brought us closer to the realization of our traditional ideals of economic and political democracy. It is appropriate, therefore, that the nation pay tribute on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation's strength, freedom, and leadership — the American worker.
